Yellowcard – When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes (Acoustic)

By Tom Aylott

‘When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes’ is one of 2011’s finest albums, and the cornerstone to YELLOWCARD‘s emphatic comeback. As a special treat for the fans that have helped see the band return in such style, they’ve put together an all-acoustic version of the record on the sly.

If you’ve heard ‘When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes’ then it’s a not a far jump of the imagination to imagine what the acoustic version sounds like, and herein lies the greatest flaw of the release; the reworked tracks are largely the same arrangements with different instruments, which leaves it a little on the predictable side.

That’s not to say it sounds bad – the production is serene, the instrumental work is flawless and the vocal is great throughout, it’s just that there’s a slight feeling the band could have pushed the envelope a little further.

That said, there’s only so much that you can expect – this is an album recorded in spare time in a busy year for the band, and is clearly meant as a bonus for their fans to enjoy. In that respect, it’s perfect, and you really can’t fault the band for keeping up the momentum.
