Having already managed to secure the EP name of the year so far, I listened to WfN with great anticipation, and boy I was not disappointed. The music is akin to that of the ‘Blood Brothers’ albeit ever so slightly dumbed down with dressings of the likes of ‘Q & Not U’. Managing to fuse so many different types of arrangements and riffs into one song is a bridge to far for many bands, but they manage to pull it off with minimum of fuss and effort, blending together soothing melodies with all out assaults on your eardrums, this is a band I recommend to keep your eyes peeled out for.
Opener ‘They Dance like that in Clubs’ is all but a teaser for the delights of second track ‘A Life in the Morning With…’ As the first track is the ying with its pounding arrangments, the second is the yang with with its mellow funky bassline and explosive chorus. The contrasts within sections of the songs are pretty fucking impressive and all in all WfN should be destined to climb the ladder quickly. They don’t conform to what you may expect and it is a fuck you at the generic bands amongst them. Ones for the future.
