Trippy Wicked & The Cosmic Children Of The Knight – Going Home

By Tom Aylott

Second album ‘Going Home’, from trio TRIPPY WICKED & THE COSMIC CHILDREN OF THE KNIGHT, is nine songs heavily woven with fierce instrumentals and grunge laden vocals.

It’s a very stoner rock affair, and that’ll instantly put off a few, but it’s definitely worth digging a little deeper for the modern enhancements to the band’s sound.

Keeping to some classic rock roots, title track ‘Going Home’ is a nine minute wonder stacked with riff after riff, leading beautifully into ‘Up In Stakes’. Despite the melancholy feel, it still maintains the characteristic rock ‘n’ roll attributes of the band’s sound.

A common feature in the album’s lyrics is the recurring theme of drinking and partying heard frequently in the stand out tracks, namely with the likes of ‘Aint Gonna End Well’, ‘I Want Another Drink’ and ‘Pour Me Another One’.

A sure favourite, ‘Hillbilly Moonshine’. is by far the most energetic moment on this album, with a repetitive streak that doesn’t override the exploding bass before the album closes with ‘Home’.

The progressive and heavy elements of the album risk feeling dragged out in places, but after a bit of getting used to, ‘Going Home’ is worth forgiving the slightly throwback approach for, and Trippy Wicked have their particular niche nailed down.
