Transition sound like a cross between ‘So Long Astoria‘-era The Ataris and recent Rise Records signees Southcott. With an ultra slick and melodic pop-punk sound, Transition are bound to pick up a legion of fans with their singalong-ability, if such a word ever existed. This record has been getting quite a lot of hype by our web-based friends across the Pond and on early listens it’s not hard to see why – this release ticks all the boxes when it comes to catchy pop-punk releases.
But as time passes and you give it several spins, ‘Get There’ just sounds wishy washy. While some of the tracks, such as ‘Down At the Harbor’, have an added bite and a killer chorus, too many songs struggle to make an impact because the vocals are, in my eyes, weak. They’re just too indistinguished and after a while it all just drifts along without really hitting the heights of a Hit the Lights, for example. And while this CD is bouncier than jelly on a space hopper, it just doesn’t stick enough for me. Good, but there have been better releases of this type already this year.
