Thrice – Major/Minor

By Tom Aylott

Coming off the heels of the tremendous ‘Beggars’, THRICE are back in a big way. ‘Major/Minor’ sees the band perfecting what their sound from ‘Beggars’ and making it as big as possible – and it’s fucking brilliant.

Evolving with each record, ‘Major/Minor’ sees Thrice, and in particular Dustin Kensrue, right at the peak of their song writing ability. Taking all of the aggression from ‘Identity Crisis’ through ‘Artist in the Ambulance’ and refining it to match the intricate, experimental nature of ‘The Alchemy Index’ EPs, Thrice have genuinely become a superb band with powerful songs and fantastic musicianship.

Much like ‘Beggars’, ‘Major/Minor’ doesn’t really feature any standouts, but as a whole album is a terrific piece of work. Nothing is forced and everything flows perfectly.

Gushing aside, this truly is a remarkable record and fans of, not just Thrice, but any kind of Rock will find much to love here, and it’s a definite contender for album of the year.
