Following an unnatural formation in 2004, members of THESET united from the shadows of Vitcoria, British Columbia with one objective; to write enough material to perform a set at a local rock show. Six years later and the Canadian quintet have unleashed a heavy dose of post-hardcore upon the world, with their latest release ‘Monsters’ reeking with concrete punches and heartfelt melodies.
After a slight member alteration and enough time to reenergize, Theset recorded with producer Julius Butty (Alexisonfire, City & Colour), an eclectic album that showcases their influence of hardcore, rock and punk. Opening with the incredible hard-hitter and lead single ‘Already Know’, the Canadians take you on a powerful journey leaving you in search of their back catalogue.
Failing to deliver a solid set of recordings, there are moments where the quality of song writing fluctuates to a degree that leads you towards the skip button. Fortunately, there is an increasingly popular market for hook-friendly post-hardcore; a direction that the sound of Theset can confidently march through.
