I came across Telford’s the Wait a couple of weeks ago while adding videos to Punktastic TV. Their track ‘Signals’ instantly ticked all the right boxes, and I eagerly requested a review copy of their upcoming debut album.
‘Everything Ends for a Reason’ is an amalgamation of the greatest elements of the greatest punk bands of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater generation. With nods to Avail, Alkaline trio, Millencolin and all the rest, The Wait have a nostalgic sound that arouses memories of the best summers of your youth, all the while still staying relevant in the present day.
The lead single kicks off the album well, with a brilliant guitar hook that acts as a stern backbone to an opening track. Combined with Paul Mcgivern’s gruff, Tim Barry-esque voice, it has the makings of a pure punk rock classic.
In parts the band show their softer side with ballad ‘Lies’, while ‘The Setup’ acts as the album’s inevitable acoustic number. Elsewhere, ‘All the Answers’ and ‘Look Away’ show this is a band with a firm grasp on musicianship, and a keen ear for a good melody.
Overall, this is a solid release from a promising undiscovered gem of a band. I really enjoy The Wait, and if you like good, clean punk rock tunes, then ‘Everything Ends for a Reason’ will be a welcome addition to your music collection.
