The Skyline – Over and Out of Control

By paul

I’m not really too sure what to make of The Skyline. Influenced by Alexisonfire, Brand New and Circa Survive, they seem a little too unsure of themselves to really fit anywhere. The three songs here don’t really go anywhere – they’re either too long or cumbersome and don’t really have a beginning, middle or end. ‘Treason’, for example, mixes screaming with a ‘normal’ vocal but seems to drift all over the place with a riff which could have been taken from any metal or hardcore band over the last 10 years. It just seems really directionless and I can’t get into it. And at 6-minutes long it’s defrinitely way too long. The electronics seem to have been tacked on to try and be modern serving very little purpose and adding absolutely nothing, and the whole thing just sounds lacklustre, directionless and lengthy. Back to the drawing board…
