The Rum Circus – Demo

By paul

According to the band themselves, The Rum Circus are a “dark melodic quartet hailing from London, Newcastle and Serbia. Their sound combines raw rock and roll, murderous blues and cinematic songwriting. They are the love affair between Scott Walker, Jacques Brel, Polly Jean and The Bad Seeds cavorting in a bubble bath of sonorous, raucous guitars and dark erotic bass lines.”

The thing is, there’s nothing worse than switching a CD on and after 30-seconds developing a large dislike for the vocalist. It’s just a personable preference and, for me, it’s just not a sound I enjoy. It’s a bit too dark and breathy, too depressing. It’s a little too theatrical in the same way Muse flex their musical muscles. And, sadly, that’s just not my thing. Good for what it is, but what it is isn’t for me.
