The Neds – Non Educated Delinquents

By

The Neds are a young three – piece punk rock band from London. This E.P, “Non Educated Delinquents” appears to be their debut offering, and with that I’m assuming it’s their first dabble in a recording studio. From this CD, its apparent from the moment the music starts, that before The Neds begin to make bigger steps within the music scene, they not only need to grow in experience of song writing, but also in mastering and production.

The quality of this CD is rather poor. Mixing wise the guitars sound really tinny and there is a desperate lack of attack in the bass drum on the drum tracks, particularly for this style of music. In fact, the whole sound of the E.P is quite rough and I’d point the finger at too much treble. However, below the mixing, (which obviously is of no fault to the band) we have the makings of one or two good songs. There is some sparks of hope from these lads, with some fast paced, well timed drumming that holds the songs together well, coupled with one or two flourishes of interesting guitar work. Vocalist Jacob provides a solid, but at the moment un-original voice from the rest of the world who are doing similar things – something that hard work over time, can bring through interesting results.

These 4 tracks draw up an E.P which last 7 minutes, 10 seconds. There’s one or two “Oi, Oi’s” and a few break downs, but way too often the band are all playing the same chords with the same drum beats over and over again, offering no significant change within the songs to attract more attention. Like I said before though, this is down to inexperience, and something that the band shouldn’t take to heart, more learn from, and I’m sure this is something they will do. I’m sure their next effort in the studio will be a major improvement.
