The Letters Organize – Dead Rhythm Machine

By

Having recently been officially announced to the Nitro Records roster in late 2004 following their dramatic and destructive appearance at A.P’s annual music conference, Letters Organise release their debut album “Dead Rhythm Machine” this month and are anticipated to spend the rest of the year on the road.

Letters Organise have a very intense and messed up, jagged sound. Musically the band are very powerful and drive right in to your head with fast paced guitars and drums, thumping and pounding out pacey tracks, which often seem like the two instruments are racing each other to see who can end the song first. Over the top you’ll find Brent Jay, who used to play guitar in the band, before allowing his freshly found singing duties to take centre stage. Brent Jay sounds like The Hives on ecstasy, or The Vines on LSD. This guy is crazy. He barely breaks for breath as he spits and screams and shouts from track to track for the 30 odd minutes this album attacks you. Tracks where you’re probably going to find the back bone basis of this band are the powerful “Dressed Up In Gatwick,” “They Call It Rock and Roll (and Other Lies)” and “There’s Room For One More.” All these songs are less than 3 minutes, but are easy to appreciate.

Don’t be fooled though, this is not hardcore. There are no chugging guitars, and down tuned, thrashy riffs. It doesn’t break the pace one bit. It’s just fast – paced punk rock and roll, from start to finish. Possibly give a nod in the direction of Fugazi or in parts The Used. Overall you can tell this band are a Nitro band, and you can tell the album is going to be a ground breaker. I’d say you’ll see big things from these guys before the year is out…
