The Hijacks – Free Your Mind

By paul

If The Hijacks had of come round about five years ago when Howards Alias, Adequate 7, NoComply, Capdown and others were tearing the UK underground scene a new arsehole I’m pretty sure they’d do better than they will now. Any kind of ska-based music goes down like a lead balloon at the moment, even though bands like HA can write easily the best UK release of the year. The Hijacks don’t do anything wrong at all, they remind me a little of Big D and the Kids Table, have plenty of melodies and don’t overdo the brass or guitars, but it’s all been heard before and sounds a little tired. It’s brave being in a band part of a genre literally no-one gives two shits about right now, and kudos for doing a reasonable job, but The Hijacks are more representative of 2003 than 2008 and that’s not a good thing in the grand scheme of things.
