Italian pop-punks The Epic Monday only formed earlier this year and, truth be told, they have a pretty mature sound for a band in its infancy. They play a no frills pop-punk/rock sound with crunchy guitar riffs and English-spoken vocals, albeit it with a heavy Euro accent. So if you like the likes of Millencolin, you’ll probably enjoy The Epic Monday.
This six-track EP is the band’s first release and it’s a steady effort. Opener ‘Ice Bounds’ is a catchy starting point, although I believe it’s around 30 seconds too long, while ‘I Know You’ has a really melodic chorus that stands out among the other songs. The band do have the knack for writing solid, catchy tunes and all six tracks on this EP have singalong moments. A little less shiny than a New Found Glory, but not quite as technical or as aggressive as a Bigwig, The Epic Monday find themselves sat snugly inbetween pop-punk sounds, yet will probably appeal to fans of both. Vanilla Sky hold on to their crown of Italy’s best pop-punk band, but The Epic Monday are undoubtedly ones to watch.
