Partly writing an EP surrounding the mysterious death of someone allegedly shot by Phil Spector isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do, let’s face it. Sadly, The Climb haven’t managed to pull it off. It’s not that lyrically or conceptually the band fall down, it’s more a case that what they do is more poptastic than punktastic. Vocalist Andrea can certainly sing, but there’s a lack of passion and emotion in her warblings that don’t really make ‘Lana’ or ‘Nobody Else’ stand out at all. The latter strives to be ‘Don’t Speak’ by No Doubt but suffers heavily from the lack of distinctive vocals or a huge melody in the chorus. This four tracker is alright, but that’s all it is. Clearly talent is there, but it’s not utilised well enough – or interestingly enough – to hold my attention.
