This is quite impressive stuff. If you enjoyed The Juliana Theory and Further Seems Forever then The Classic Crime are in a similar vein. Unsurprising I guess as this mob are also on Tooth and Nail. There’s plenty of driving riffs and uplifting vocals, plenty of huge hooks and big choruses too.
My previous knowledge of the band is pretty limited to be honest. I’d heard their first record ‘Albatross’ a couple of times but dismissed it as it didn’t really stand out. It wasn’t a bad record by any stretch of the imagination, but there was nothing to separate it from the pack. ‘The Silver Cord’, on the other hand, stands out for being better in every department. The riffs are better, the vocals better and the songs stick out. They’re memorable. They’ll have you singing along. ‘Gravedigging’ and ‘Closer Than We Think’ are great tunes, as is the first single ‘Abracadavers’.
Music is so easily obtainable nowadays that you have no excuse for not checking this record out. I wasn’t expecting too much and so was nicely surprised to hear this record is actually pretty good.
