The Cedar Falls – S/T

By paul

Having never come across The Cedar Falls before, I have to say I’m quite impressed with this three-tracker. I wouldn’t say their brand of melodic rock/alternative is usually my kind of thing, but this band have more harmonies and killer choruses than many of their signed peers. Infact, I’d go as far as saying they’re a lot better than many signed bands and could very easily be snapped up and paraded around as the ‘next big thing’. I can see the Metal Hammer piece now…

The Cedar Falls have a reasonably simple formula, but execute it well. ‘Our Angels Wait’ has a very catchy chorus and a solid structure and could easily be a minor radio hit, a trait the band repeat on both ‘Easy To Float’ and ‘The Wire Also’. The second track, a lot slower in pace and style, even has a little Creed-influence in the vocals, although the end product isn’t as horrific as it sounds. Each song is big-sounding without being overblown, resulting in three well crafted and catchy songs. Not usually my thing, but The Cedar Falls have the potential to go a long, long way.
