The Cape Race – Now Voyager

By Tom Aylott

Manchester‘s The Cape Race, firmly nestled in the new breed of UK alternative rock, have returned with latest release in the form of a six track EP showcasing the band’s progression in the last year or so.

Immediate and lazy comparisons place the band alongside the likes of Francesqa and Futures, and though there’s a certain similarity, if anything they’ve a more developed sound than most in the scene.

There’s certainly an uphill struggle ahead for The Cape Race, as there’s not a lack of bands walking the same footsteps they are, but songs like ‘They’re Young, They’re In Love’ and ‘Bets’ carry well constructed and finely executed instrumentation under some fantastic vocal delivery, and there’s certainly nothing lacking in the songwriting throughout the six tracks.

As the band go on, their next full length is going to be key to their success, but ‘Now Voyager’ is a great springboard for that moment, and considering it’s available absolutely free from the band, there’s no excuse not to at least give it a try.
