There’s something in the water in Sweden – they seem to be able to irk out bands that write fantastic rock and roll tunes with ease. The Hives are an obvious example, but The Aches are another band who could easily turn heads in a few months time. This self-titled album is perhaps a couple of songs too long, but on the whole it’s excellent. From The Undertones-influenced ‘Spit It Out’ to the joyous catchy pop-rock of ‘Cut Corners’, this is 11-songs of punchy punk rock. Impressive.
