Those who know me well know that I am a sucker for music played at breakneck speed. I find something altogether more appealing with band members playing tracks that stretch their musical talent to an altogether different level. Of late I have had the pleasure of listening to a lot of hardcore records played at varying speed, but Tearjerk are a different kettle of fish altogether. Piecing together five tracks played at such a pace it is kind of worrying as to how they manage to stay in sync, let alone play to an incredibly high standard.
Opener ‘Dead Inside’ lulls the listener into a blistering opening slowly as a flurry of poetic (If there is such a thing) noise builds into a frenzy of excitement and is a fucking awesome way to win over the crowd. Various breakdowns throughout the song work well in their favour and it sets ‘Disarm’ up beautifully as the opening builds slowly, introducing an instrument at a time to once again ease you into a flurry of hardcore masterfulness. ‘Consider Someone Else‘ is slightly less in your face as the previous two efforts, but the superb lyrics and vocals take centre stage this time around on a politically charged number. ‘Revolution Rising’ is once again heavy on melodies and heavier on energy while ‘Five Against One’ closes in slightly ‘epic’ nature with stirring drums running the emotions on high and rounds off a superb five track journey.
To be frank I can’t believe there are many better-unsigned hardcore acts around. The arrangements and lyrics are second to none while they seem to create their music to such a high standard with minimum of fuss. Hopefully it wont be long before they have the chance to create this blend of hardcore tomfoolery to a bigger audience, and trying to think of minor nuisances is easier said than done. Things such as the music sounding a little to clouded with all the noise is petty yet may put some off, but this is being extremely nit picky. I suggest you check out the website, and get into your new favourite band.
