TalesToldintheDark – Demo

By paul

Another day, another distinctly average run-of-the-mill demo to review. Tales Told In The Dark is a four-piece from Ipswich who claim to have influences such as Small Brown Bike and As Friends Rust, which bodes well. However, TTITD don’t have anywhere near the same impact as their heroes. Instead they merely meander through a few songs that will have you reaching for the skip button. Harsh these comments may be, but I’ve been inundated with demos recently and the not-so-good discs do tend to stick out. This three-tracker ends up in this category.

While the intro to ‘To Malta With Love’ looks as though there is some promise, the song quickly tails off. It’s not that TTITD cannot play, or that the songs are particularly bad, but there’s nothing new here at all. So many bands are doing this kind of thing and it’s not until you trawl through 1,200 CDs (as we collectively have) that you begin to realise how stale some styles of music are. I’m sure within the Ipswich scene that Tales Told In The Dark has a legion of fans, but in the grand scheme of things this EP will pass you by.
