Switch NX – Explode Into Life This Is Your 9To5

By paul

I’ll give Switch NX their due, this record sounds great. Former My Awesome Compilation producer Adam Ellis has done a great job on this EP, and while at times the songs let the band down, the same cannot be said about the sound. The mix is especially good; a lot of more professional bands have put out far worse sounding records in the last 6 months. While this Leicester mob are dificult to pigeonhole, their sound is a little familiar. SwitchNX manage to mix a kind of skate punk vibe with the energy of an Early November type band, so while they don’t sound the same as too many other groups, there are familiar elements.

The six tracks on offer here are fairly good – SwitchNX strike me as being a band worthy of opening hometown shows for bigger bands and being quite enjoyable. The closing ‘Sleeping On The Floor’ is a nice little song with strong vocals and some enjoyable drum fills. Each of the tracks aims to have a memorable chorus and the band clearly have aims to be a melodic prospect, something they almost manage to pull off. Getting to this level is one thing mind, but taking it up a notch and making it to the next is even harder and that is something this band must do if they intend to make a mark on the UK scene. There’s some potential there, but creating their own identity is a must if they hope to further improve.
