Suave Gap – Twenty Four-Seven

By paul

Suave Gap are big in Greece. I mean really big in Greece. Sure, they may actually be Greek, but they’ve had songs on commercials, signed to the Greek version of Universal Records and played the equivalent of the arena circuit. Not bad for a band that pays so much homage to Blink 182 and Green Day they should be prosecuted for breaching copyright. I don’t take any plesure from being critical, but Suave Gap just aren’t all that good. There’s nothing particularly special going on, the songs aren’t that strong and after listening several times through I wouldn’t say there were more than one or two songs which stood out – and one of those is a cover.

The outro to ‘Ups and Downs’ rips off Blink no end, while many of the riffs are recycled from the Billie Joe Armstrong school of songwriting. That’s mainly Suave Gap‘s problem – they sound like too many other bands, yet aren’t really any better than any of them. Their best song is a cover of ‘Together in Electric Dreams’, which kind of says it all. Too many songs blend into one another, while the production just isn’t crisp enough for a pop-punk record. Sorry chaps, but while you may have conquered Greece, you may take a bit longer to crack the mainland…
