Stupids – The Kids Don’t Like It…

By paul

This review is almost redudant, because I reviewed the re-release of ‘Violent Nun’ (have a read here – http://www.punktastic.com/reviews/2988 and the recent 7” single ‘Feel The Suck’ (that little beauty is here – http://www.punktastic.com/reviews/3220), a track which also features on this lovely 16 song album, their first since cavemen roamed the earth.

If you bothered to click on either of those links (bet you didn’t, you lazy swine) then you’ll realize that this review CD is merely preaching to the converted, because I have a lot of love for this band. I’ve done my best to be objective anyway. They seem to be able to give 3 chords ferocity and aggression, without making any particular effort to bombard you with serious lyrical content. That’s a pretty rare combination. It’s the stuff that people who are stuck in 90s Fat Wreck and Epitaph releases dream of. If they are looking for a token English band to add to add a tiny amount of variety to their NoFX and Pennywise CD collection. And already have everything Consumed ever did.

The reason that maybe this is a valuable addition to the Stupids‘ back catalogue is simply that its well produced, a hell of a lot more audible than their 80s output and is tinged with a certain sense of middle aged doggedness that you could only get from a bunch of guys who’ve been punks for a fucking long time. They may profess to think that the kids won’t like it, but I think they will be pleasantly surprized.
