Stillbust – ‘A Few Things We Might Agree On (A Few Things We Might Not)’

By Tom Aylott

Some bands just sound like they don’t give a fuck (in a good way). One of these bands happen to go by the name of Stillbust. Their new record, ‘A Few Things We Might Agree On (A Few Things We Might Not)’ mixes up a stack of different punk sub genres over a rather tidy 10 tracks, and you can hear elements of (lazy reference klaxon) everything from a Pacer and Pennywise to Blakfish and Refused across the band’s sound. The lyrics are aggressive yet succinct, and the band just have a knack of nailing punk rock without even really coming off like they’re thinking about it too hard.

Stillbust have that classic, almost old school NOFX skate punk pace to their music, but they never really feel out of control, repetitive or lazy. The 45 (well 30 really) second long ‘Ball (Sac Magique)’ is ridiculously fast, and even the longest track on the album in ‘Physicist At A Funeral (Godless Thoughts On Death)’ barely takes a second to breathe across it’s 6 minutes.

If you need something fast, furious, snotty and fun to listen to this summer, then look no further than Stillbust for an excellent, if a little bonkers skate punk romp. ‘A Few Things We Might Agree On (A Few Things We Might Not)’ has really put Stillbust on our radar, and we’ll be correcting the fact that we haven’t been able to see them live yet as soon as possible.
