I know Hellcat has its own sound, but for me some of their recent releases have been bad. Really bad. Generic too – there’s nothing worse than any band recycling the sound of something that sounded so much better many years previously, and of course that goes with any kind of music – The Stone Roses will always be better than Kasabian, for example. As a result it amazes me why bands continue to peddle out Discharge-influenced 80s punk rock like they only did it yesterday. It’s a sound that comes across horribly dated, even when a band tries to polish it up with a little souped up production.
Static Thought are just horribly obvious, a band that would undoubtedly have been a hit in the 80s, but are simply stuck in a time warp – too similar to their influences, playing a type of music that makes me feel dead inside. And while Eric Urbach may be 17-years-old and claim he doesnt give a fuck with such a childlike sneer, it simply comes across like a kid who has thrown his toys out of the pram. If you like uninspiring 80s punk rock – or, infact, anything Hellcat ever seem to release – pick this up. The rest of you, avoid.
