Sliced Peach – 4-track demo

By paul

Bands like this frustrate me. This EP starts off with the potentially excellent ‘bad ass billy’ – a song that has all the hallmarks of being a really good song. There’s a strong chorus, good boy/girl vocals and a memorable guitar riff. Sure, it’s lyrically cliched and there are plenty of musical mistakes, but the quality of the song itself allows for these kind of errors. So all looks up and there’s me thinking I might have something better than a turgid unsigned band’s demo.

I spoke too soon.

If you’re going to sing, at least mean it. Don’t just sing, give it some fucking welly. Sing with emotion, with passion – stir those fucking senses. Sadly the singing in ‘spellbound’ is so cheesy it’s grating. Ahem. Sure, the female vocalist can hit some notes, but it’s like turning up to work, putting in the bare minimum of effort and taking home a paycheck. at least put in some solid graft! However, that song makes ‘burning starr’ sound like Megadeath – the latter is an appalling attempt at some kind of weepy ballad, when in truth it’s turgid, unsigned band…hang on a minute, this is what we receive every bleedin’ day! It’s unoriginal, it’s crap, why haven’t you all worked out the bloody formula yet?

The first song has urgency and the mix of boy/girl works well. Why on Earth they ditched something that was on to a winner for a female vocal that cannot hit any high pitched notes is beyond me. Get back to basics, don’t play/sing beyond your means and maybe, just maybe, you’re on to something…
