Slapshot – Tear It Down

By paul

Amazingly, Slapshot have been doing their thing for 20 years. That’s probably longer than the actual age of most of the people living this. In terms of paying your dues to the music world, Slapshot should have already earned your respect. Their ballsy take on the hardcore end of punk rock may not be the easiest to digest for melodic kids like me, but this seven-tracker is still a relatively decent listen nonetheless. ‘Relight The Fire’ is almost the band offering us out for a fight, while ‘Tear It Down’ and ‘Hardcore Rules’ are pretty straight up hardcore efforts.

Slapshot do through in the odd curveball mind, especially lyrically. The Bostonians take a swipe at their neighbours during ‘Fuck New York’ and the rather close-minded (yet tongue in cheek) ‘Rap Sucks’ has a rather obvious lyrical matter. With a pretty distinctive back catalogue behind them, I’m sure there are better starting points for prospective new fans. Older lovers of the band will want to pick this up for sure mind – they may not be as much of a votal cog in the wheel as they were a few years back, but Slapshot can certainly teach some of the new pups a thing or two…
