SEA OF LIONS start their EP with an explosive bang in the form of ‘Pins And Crosses’. With an exciting rhythm, controlled tempo, and perfectly punchy vocals complementing the feistiness feel – and not forgetting a catchy chorus which sets the mark high for the remaining tracks.
A change in pace comes with ‘Julia’, a song that starts off slower, with precise and almost haunting vocals, building up to tumultuous guitars and upbeat drumming. It’s a well-structured song which flows effortlessly into ‘The Truth Will Drown Us All’.
This track springs to life with big drums, beefy riffs, as well as a precise vocal – the husky screams arguably making it the most energetic song. In another change in direction, final track ‘Books’ has a ballad feel to it, aided by heartfelt lyrics that evoke a different side to the band.
With ‘I Overcame, I Survived’ being only a four track EP, this Sheffield quintet display true potential and talent, showing diverse sides to their musical ability; proving that they are more than just another pop punk outfit.
