Well, this is an interesting little number. Originating from London/Hampshire, Ruin Everything here unleash 4-track debut ‘Lioniser’, which is downloadable for a nominal price on their Bandcamp and the good news for cheap music fans is that it’s a little bit fantastic. Falling somewhere between the technical approach of bands such as Beecher or The Chariot with the emotive power of bands along the lines of Touché Amoré or Goodtime Boys, this release provides a tantalising taster of what’s to come from this four-piece.
Ruin Everything don’t waste moment putting their point across – every track is a full-on assault that grabs your attention in a vice-like grip and never lets go. It doesn’t take a moment to meander or pause; all four tracks clock in comfortably under three minutes, which makes it a rather “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it”/hit-and-run type affair (which works to its credit). Every track has something different to offer, something else hiding just around a corner to jump out at you. Opener ‘Leave No Man Behind’ sounds like the bastard son of everything Funeral For A Friend did on the Seven Ways To Scream Your Name EP and ‘The Child, The Prince, The Martyr’ sounds like a violent love affair between Defeater and Protest The Hero.
This is truly scinitillating stuff and just a mini-morsel before a full-length that the band are due to record later on in 2012. Rip this to your PC and get it into your ears immediately – this lot may be British technical hardcore’s most enticing prospect since Shaped By Fate.
