Rig Up Explosive – We Come As Clouds

By paul

I first became aware of Rig Up Explosive about a year ago and the guys pestered me with demo after demo, each one getting better than the previous recording. Swiftly snapped up by Small Town Records this is their first official release, although they’ve put out various demos off their own back. ‘We Come As Clouds’ is a seven-tracker with many, many different influences. It doesn’t really sound like too many other bands around right now – it fuses really intracite melodies with some tight, twisting guitar riffs. ‘Aregato’, for example, twists and turns yet maintains some sweet vocal melodies that will get inside your head and refuse to budge.

To be honest I prefer it when the band burst into life and break out in energetic spurts and, for me, they don’t do it enough on this EP. That doesn’t make this bad – far from it – but I do feel the band are better when they push the pace a little bit. ‘Blinding White’ showcases the band at their best, while ‘The Girl Who Stole The Eiffel Tower’ is another really good song. Rig Up Explosive are a very bright and intelligent band determined to do things a little differently and they deserve a lot of credit for not following trends. Well worth your time and money, check them out now.
