Resonate – EP sampler

By paul

In Spud’s review of Resonate‘s last EP, he wrote: “In general this is done fairly well, but a level of polish is required to get to the next stage.” Well it seems like Resonate took heed – because the three tracks on this EP are fantastic, rubbed in with spit and polish no less. Thick guitar riffs collide with some superb vocals to provide one of the best UK releases I’ve heard so far this year. And when I hark back to previous resonate material, the older material is so far behind these new songs it actually sounds like different bands.

‘Concealing Our Cards’ is a fantastic slice of Biffy-esque rock, only outdone by ‘Lights Across The Water’ which adds a technical edge, polishes up the vocal melodies and sounds as good as anything any UK band of this ilk are doing right now. Not too shabby for an unsigned UK band. ‘4am Onward’ suggests the band aren’t flukeing the great songs, again mixing heavy guitars with large doses of melody. Production-wise this is spot on too, making Resonate ones to definitely keep an eye on this year.
