Red: The Resistance – Headlines

By paul

For me, Red; The Resistance are one of the UK’s best new bands. While there are elements of early Rise Against in their sound, there is a distinct Britishness and an awareness in their lyrics which makes them stand out from a lot of other similar bands. While the production on ‘Headlines’ sometimes lets the band down – the drums don’t quite seem to stay in time on the opening track, for instance – the quality of the songwriting is always impressive.

‘Hearts and Minds’ is absolutely fantastic, from the gang vocals to the crunching opening riffs. ‘The Spin’ is energetic with a kick like a mule, while the two Jim Turner-produced songs have an added bite that really impresses. And if the band continue to improve and can raise the funds for a full set of well recorded tracks, they could be armed and dangerous. Best band in Worcester? Sorry Mr Leighfield…
