If you like This Is A Standoff or Belvedere then Rebuke are the band for you. This is tech-y skate-punk at it’s best – this record has more riffs and solos than some bands write in an entire career. It means that as solo songs Rebuke stand out for being a bit different to most pop-punk bands around at the minute; they’re a real throwback to the 90s EpiFat scene of bands that mixed speed and melody in equal measure.
Rebuke, however, begin to sound the same after a while and although there are some standout tracks on this album, it all begins to sound a bit samey on repeated listens. ‘Gonzales’ is a great tune, as is ‘Snow Day’, but what lets this album down is that 14 songs is a lot when the guitar tone sounds very similar throughout. The tracks are all good, but it all starts to blend together after a while. ‘Still Weather’ has some of the finest guitar work you will hear, and it goes to show how talented this band is, just listen to it in small doses and you’ll get the most out of it.
