I’ve had to review a lot of really average records recently and ‘Love’ is no different. Randy’s Ripcord are a female fronted trio from Germany who play pretty sugary pop-punk. It’s a real no-frills sound, there’s very little in the way of imagination in the guitar and the vocals tend to stay at the same monotonous level all the way through. Having said that, this record is pretty enjoyable in the short-term – although it is very mucha throwaway album (as in you’ll listen to it once or twice, put it on a shelf and then two years down the line throw it away to make space for something else).
To tell the truth, this record lacks the bite of most of Go Kart’s more skate-punk records, or the attitude and rock ‘n roll tendencies of a band like The Donnas. Randy’s Ripcord just tend to go through the life of this album playing pretty average songs, which is all well and good, but it’s hardly inspiring and it’s just making me write words to seemingly fill up a space. I want to be inspired to write words that mean something – but like this band, I feel like I’m just going through the motions.
