I usually slag press releases and bios off, so sometimes it makes a change to point out the good ones. Gravity manage to hit the nail right on the head when they describe Pylon, so I thought I’d slap in some copy and paste and let the label describe the band in a far better way than I would have done:
“In a scene where nearly every band wants to simply imitate, UK stalwarts Pylon are a breath of fresh air, refusing to compromise in their pursuit of a well crafted song and a beautifully layered melody. mixing the pop sensibilities of Ash with classic US indie rock like Sunny Day Real Estate and The Posies, adding layered vocal harmonies, delicate rhodes piano embellishments and the Northern indie soul. Pylon have the ability to put a tune in your head and make sure it sticks there.”
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V over, this full length album also comes complete with a bonus disc of nine extra songs from two now unavailable EPs. So even before I’ve started to go through the tracks on this record, you can see it’s excellent value for money. It’s also value for money in the quality stakes, a record warm and melodic, yet full of indie-rock goodness too. ‘King of the Underground’ is an excellent track, normally I’d describe it as a highlight, but tell the truth there aren’t really any bad songs here so they all stand out for the right reasons. With recent releases by Orko and Stapleton, Gravity is rapidly becoming known for releasing good indie-rock records and this is another neat little album to add to that collection.
