Promise Me Tomorrow – Through it All

By Tom Aylott

Kent’s PROMISE ME TOMORROW‘s eight track EP ‘Through it All’ is a snugly mid-tempo pop-punk affair that’s largely very listenable and well constructed – fans of Dangerous Summer and Jimmy Eat World will spot things they can like in the band, and tracks like opener ‘More Than You Know’ pull in enough elements of the newer pop-punk waves to cover a wide breadth of influences.

The main problems with ‘Through It All’ lie in the fact that the choruses don’t ever quite get “big” enough, and the production can make the vocal delivery end up feeling a little flat – the band certainly have potential, no doubt, but they’ll definitely have to dig deep and find something that will make them stand out on their next release.

There’s nothing intrinsically wrong here, it’s just the song structures are very “as they should be” and, in effect, Promise Me Tomorrow can come off a little unimaginative. There’s certainly no reason the band can’t go on and do great things, and there’s absolutely no way the band are doing anything but making music they enjoy playing, but in ‘Through it All’, there’s far more threatened than delivered and it’d be great to see the band concentrate on giving the songs a extra few finishing touches to set them apart from the crowd.
