Overreact describe themselves as “Angular Dance Beat Nu New Wave” so i was expecting some kind of Enter Shikari-esque dancetastic experience. But I was wrong. Overreact are more Wombats than Shikari, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on which side of the fence you sit in regard to 21st Century ‘rave’. This four-tracker isn’t too bad, but it’s let down by some elementary errors. The production is really poor, meaning the vocals sound tinny even though the singer can clearly hold a note. The guitars are even weaker and the bass is pretty much non-existent. And it’s all a shame because the likes of the title track and ‘Confidence Game’ go a long way to proving these boys can write a good song. It’s not really a genre of music I tend to get too excited about, but in small doses and with better recording this lot could do a lot, lot better.
