I received this CD only today and so far have had it on for a couple of hours. Featuring members of PMX, the Scottish skate punk heroes, I expected grand things from this CD. The release consisits of 3 tracks, with 2 vocalists, 2 guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer, and that alone is a hefty line up and the wall of noise I was going to meet when I hit the play button came as no surprise. But just because the sound is beefy doesn’t mean it’s good, as I might be about to relay to you…
The opening track “The Last Reason†is a track full of guitar that dips and flies across the forefront of a very strong rhythm section. The 2 vocalists wedged just underneath it, 1 screaming, 1 singing melodically (as you would imagine) have suffered from some less than amazing production on this CD, but none the less you can gauge some awesome strength from the larynx section.
The CD itself is a bit of a masterpiece. There’s too much going on to really grasp what bits to like and not like, and reminds me a little of Last Out, one of my favourite bands of all times, but that may be a weak comparison, as there are bits of TBS I can feel in this, as well as some much, much heavier elements. Stomping bass drum in the mix makes it quite a beatdown fest, if you can keep up.
This CD is no amazing release that will knock rock parrots from their perches, but this CD has got potential that could lead onto big things for these guys. It’s nice and clichéd to use those lines, but this CD could be the calm before the NYR storm.
