The never ending conveyer belt of UK talent old and new released on Boss Tuneage records continues with the debut 6 song EP from New Set Of Bruises, a band that features Nij from Blocko, who did the rounds for a fair few years up and down the country. This stuff is more chilled out than they were, offering up an early 90s American style sound, reminiscent of the more intelligent college bands of yesteryear.
Bands tread a fine line sometimes when they offer up mid-paced, chord based rock, because you lay your song writing abilities about as bare as they can be. So it is a mark of the success of the songwriting that the tracks on offer here stick in your head pretty well. It reminds me quite a lot of Farside and Dig. Guitar noise, simple drums and a slight sense of melancholy. Its not going to set the world alight, but this EP will remind the average 3 Colours Red fan that they can still get to hear new music played that way.
