Nekromantix – What Happens In Hell, Stays In Hell

By Tom Aylott

Some genres really are destined to remain in a bit of a niche, and Psychobilly is most definitely in that pile. Hellcat Records had a great bash at / monopoly of the genre a while back, with Tiger Army possibly being the most successful export, but NEKROMANTIX were always one of the “true” psycho bands on the label, and big shining stars in some of the early ‘Give ‘Em The Boot’ compilations.

This latest effort from the band, perhaps as expected, isn’t rewriting the rulebook, but it is doing the genre a great service, and there’s no way Nekromantix could be labelled inconsistent.

Whether you’ll like the record really depends if you’re a ‘billy fan at all – if fast-paced punk rock and roll with double bass and themes stolen right out of a Ghost Train Ride don’t rub you up the wrong way, it’s pretty likely you’ll find lots to have fun with here.

Nekromantix, as with so many of their ilk, are best enjoyed live and more than a few of the tracks on ‘What Happens in Hell, Stays in Hell’ would be perfect for being in a dark room, a few bloody marys down, ready for a dance and dressed like a werewolf.
