My So Called Life – Demo

By paul

There’s nothing at all wrong with My So Called Life, but they don’t quite grab me as much as they maybe should. Taking their name from a popular teen TV show and an Ataris song, you can probably tell what the band sound like before you hear them – and in the main they do what they do well. The sound is melodic and poppy with plenty of singalongs and harmonies, yet at the same time they possibly aren’t quite catchy enough to stand out from the thriving pack of bands doing a similar thing.

‘Science of Subtlety’ is pleasant enough, as is ‘From here To Sunset’, but both maybe lack a little punch. The vocalist is possibly a little flat at times and would maybe be better suited to a little more power and emotion, but that’s not meant to detract from a solid performance. This three-tracker is nice and neat and doesn’t outstay its welcome. It’s a nice introduction to the band, but they don’t stick out enough for me yet, although there’s no doubting there is potential here.
