The last time I reviewed this Essex quartet, I said they were generic and a bit crap. Sadly, what I said last time around still applies. While this new five-song EP is marginally better than their last effort, it sadly still sounds like pretty much every other British skate-punk band. The riffs are recycled, the vocals a bit hit and miss and the lyrics – especially on the cringeworthy ‘LSD’ – are seemingly penned by a 14-year-old GCSE English student. Put it all together and it just comes out like one big mess. And I hate to come across as overly critical, but when you’re making the same mistakes you did a year ago, surely there has to become a point where a band needs to go back to the drawing board. It just all sounds so incredibly flat and basic…I don’t know, I like my music to have a bit of spark and passion, but there’s neither on offer here and if MrHappyChainsaw intend to do more than support travelling bands at their local venue, they’ve got quite a lot of work still to do.
