We receive Cds from bands like MrHappyChainsaw every week and it’s difficult to convey the same message in a different way every time. Based in Braintree, Essex, these youngsters sound like your local skate punk band. It doesn’t matter where in the country you live, the band opening up when 4ft Fingers come round will sound exactly like this lot. And that’s not meant to be utterly harsh, but MHC are just another bunch of A-Level students having fun by recycling the same four-chord riffs over scatter-gun drum beats.
There’s nothing horrifically wrong with this five-track demo – well the second song is absolutely bloody awful – but it’s just generic and obvious. There are no new ideas, the level of musicianship is very bog standard and…well, I don’t think I need to re-inforce the point too much. As a bunch of friends having fun by playing local venues, these guys will probably do well, but there’s no way, on the basis of these songs, that they will go any further than Braintree.
