So many bands seem to be releasing DVD’s at the moment. Some are bad and simply seem like label or band cash-in sessions, while others are full of content and you can tell a lot of work has gone into them. Thankfully this is a case of the latter and is crammed full of footage for the 76 minute duration of the DVD.
Millencolin are a band that surely everyone has heard of. The Swedes have been playing as a band for over 10 years now and have released records on Burning Heart, and Epitaph in America. This DVD spans the whole length of their existence, with footage from the beginning right up until a couple of years ago.
Everything you could imagine has been compiled onto this DVD and it must have taken a lot of time editing all the clips together. You’ve got live footage, from different countries and from different tours. Music Videos that they made for songs (Da Strike is a great video), and it includes all the videos they made for songs from ‘Life on a Plate’ and ‘For Monkeys’. The band are Interviewed in a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ session, which answers the usual questions people like to know about bands.
The thing I like about this DVD is the fact that it’s about more than just the music. You actually get an insight into the band. Sure, you get the ‘backstage’ footage from gigs, tours and recording (including a comical version of ‘Israelites’ jammed out in the studio), but you also get to see footage of some of the band Skateboarding (all falling over), and being ‘goofy’ with their friends. Oh, and you also get to see The Drummer’s Collarbone after he breaks it skateboarding, ouch.
If you’re a fan of Millencolin you won’t be disappointed and I’m sure you’ll watch this DVD over and over. I can’t really fault the package really, it’s got everything you’d expect from a music DVD. Apparently they’re already in the process of making a sequel which will cover more recent years of the band, and if it’s anything like this one, it’ll definitely be a must-have for the fans.
