MayOr West – We, The End

By paul

On first listen MayOr West reminded me of a weaker Hidden In Plain View; they have that poppy vibe but it’s a bit edgy and a bit off-kilter from the norm. When I say ‘weaker’ I simply mean that it’s not quite as polished or catchy, not that the band aren’t that good. And that’s the difference between this and many others kicking around the scene – MayOr West clearly know what to do, but it doesn’t quite have the verve or power of some of their peers. ‘Devil’s In The Details’ needs a bit extra oomph in the riffs, while the vocals throughout are a little soft when some more anger and passion would certainly suit the band that bit better. There are some good songs here mind, ‘Icarus’ is a keeper, as is ‘LASH’, but if the band want to impress on a lot of people they need to make a few minor tweaks first. This is a good scene-setter, the next job is to build on what they’ve got and move it all forward.
