LYU – The Sky Is Yours

By paul

I swear LYU used to be called Loosen Your Undies and play really bratty pop-punk. Either that or I’ve been having really, really weird dreams. Anyway, LYU are now neither of the above. Instead they play really grand, majestic pop-rock in the vein of modern day Funeral For A Friend. There are some pretty big riffs and some really soaring vocals. This EP is pretty good stuff, if sounds massive and the production values really add a layer to the band’s sound. If it was recorded at Long Wave, as I suspect it was, then it’s no surprise.

The five tracks on this release are all to a good standard. There’s no filler and that’s just the way I like it. If an EP contains filler then as a band you’re in trouble. LYU don’t need to worry – ‘Here In Line’ reminds me a little bit of Short Warning in terms of the guitars both in the riffs and in the guitar tone, but all of the tracks sound good in their own little way. These Brummie boys aren’t setting the world alight with a new style, but they do what they do well and I can see them gaining some kudos if they keep up the hard work.
