Liars Academy – Demons

By paul

This week saw the release of the new Liars Academy new album, “Demons” on Equal Vision. The band who have been marching on across the U.S on the back of their last release “Trading My Life” and a series of intense live shows at some top notch U.S festivals. “Demons” is a basic up and down melodic rock n roll album. At its high points, it reminds me of Dashboard, full of serious themes of despair, regret, hope and redemption combined angelically with light guitars and harmonic vocals, basic structures and melody. Track 2, “Dying as Fast as I Can,” is certainly a song to look out for, reflecting my comparison, but also showing the band in their main strengths. Other shining points are the songs, “Ghosts of Baltimore,” and “Come on Danger.”

This album doesn’t really contain any bad songs to be fair, because in short, they are all very similar. It’s fairly average and bland. There’s little variation and after a while the album begins to drag and rarely holds its own in a room with conversation. Other bands who are doing similar things are able to push one or two songs through to attract a re-listen, where as Liars Academy just don’t seem to have enough in this album to warrant me desiring to hit the play button again.

Like I said, this band are good at what they do, and I’m sure there is an whole army of fans waiting out there with this record in hand, singing its praises. But it just doesn’t do anything for me I’m afraid, take a listen yourself.
