Signature Tune seems to be developing a keen ear for dischordant, off-kilter post-hardcore bands. Not too dissimilar from SecondSmile, Lakes are a lovely bunch – and this 5-track EP is an excellent showcase if you’re yet to come across the band. I always feel EPs of this length are nothing more than an introduction to a band, and in this case Lakes should be warmly received. While the band have an experimental streak which shows time changes and stop/start structures, they’re accessible at the same time. If you like your rock to indeed rock, then Lakes could be the band for you.
