Lagwagon – I Think My Older Brother…

By paul

It’s hard to believe Lagwagon are 20 years old. They’re actually older than some (probably many!) of PT’s readers! The very first band to sign to Fat Wreck Chords this fact is not lost on Joey Cape‘s men as they’ve named this 7-track EP after the fact they’re now beginning to be a band that passes down through generations. It also suggests that if you’re a Lagwagon fan of old you will also like this record – to be fair it’s the same old band offering very little we haven’t heard before.

But that’s not really a bad thing. Like Pennywise the band often get charged with sticking too rigidly with the same formula, but why change a winning system? Yes, there’s nothing here you haven’t heard from Lagwagon before, but when you hear Joey belt out the chorus of ‘Errands’ or when you hear the opening riff to ‘B side’ you can’t help but fall in love with them again. Again! With a back catalogue as strong as any band in the modern day punk scene, this may not be essential listening but these old dogs can still teach the younger pups a trick or two.
