Kensifella are a strange hybrid, mixing up faster more skate-punk parts with the kind of vocal stylings of a King Prawn or an early Capdown. It’s relatively impressive stuff, especially as the recordings are pretty rough, but there’s plenty of energy and that makes up for it being rough around the edges. This four-track EP doesn’t showcase the finished article, but all of the right elements are in place. Opener ‘Weaned From the Scene’ has a really nice guitar riff and the drums, while probably a little too high in the mix, are played impeccably. The brooding intro to ‘Good For Nothing’ – complete with James Hetfield-esque vocals – shows another side to the band, while ‘Caged’ is interesting and exciting. There are some decent moments to this EP and Kensifella are certainly on the right lines.
